BACKGROUND/BIO
My name is Matthew Smith. It is a great honor to be able to join the White River Hornet Football Family as your wide receivers coach. I am originally from Spanaway, Washington and attended Spanaway Lake High School. At Spanaway Lake High School, I played on the Football and Soccer teams. After High School I went to play Wide Receiver at the University of Washington for four years. I graduated from the University of Washington with a BA in History, BA in African Studies, and a minor in Earth and Space Science. I played football at Western Washington University for my last year of eligibility as a graduate transfer, before moving back to the Pierce County area to start my career.
I currently live with Buckley with my wife Shelsea, daughter Alexis, son Braden, and my two dogs Tucker and Lucy. My hobbies include sports, hiking/camping, hunting, fishing, and spending time with family.
My goal is to help our players build a foundation of mental discipline, accountability, and fundamentals. This will give our players the tools to be successful on and off the field. Bring the energy, Let’s get after it, and win the day!
“Discipline equals freedom”
FAVORITE FOOTBALL MEMORY
This is not about me. I’m not going to go “Uncle Rico” on you and bring up the past. I am here to help the current players make some some memories of their own. Let’s get after it!
